Olex Taranaki Golf Open
28 Sep 2006
Olex is pleased to once again be the major sponsor of the Taranaki Golf Open.
The third Olex Taranaki Golf Open, part of Golf Tour New Zealand, will boast a $40,000 prize purse on 28 September 2006 to 1 October 2006 at New Plymouth Golf Club.
It has been the flagship of the burgeoning tour established by former touring professional Greg Turner to provide opportunities for young New Zealand professionals and to raise the bar for the leading amateurs, both men and women.
The Taranaki event is now one of three tour events this year – joined by the Tauranga Open and September’s GTNZ Wairakei – with Turner confident of announcing further venues in the coming weeks.
The Olex Taranaki Open will be the second in the new Michael Campbell Foundation Scholarship, with three scholarships up for grabs from the GTNZ Tour. Recipients will receive a number of benefits including a week of personal tuition in Florida with Campbell and his coach Jonathon Yarwood.
Olex Taranaki Open organisers are making further developments to the event, making it the centrepoint for a week-long festival of golf in the region.
This year they will run a $10,000 Pro-Am event in Hawera on Tuesday 26 September as part of the activities.
“The last two years have been outstanding in raising the profile of the sport in Taranaki and playing a strong role in promoting this fantastic concept by Greg Turner,” Taranaki Golf’s David McCallum said.
