Plugging into Power

11 Mar 2008

Pike River Coal is located on the top of the Paparoa mountain range about 46 km’s north east of the port town Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

It will be New Zealand’s second largest export coal mine and is expected to reach more than 1.0 million tonnes of hard coking coal in the year 2009.

Olex will soon be supplying Pike River Coal with 3 core 185 11 kV copper and 3 core 95 11 kV copper for this project.

Post production, and before delivery to site, each end of cable was fitted with Ausproof cable terminations. The terminations will allow quick and easy connection between cables and other associated electrical equipment.

This was the first time Olex New Zealand has worked with these terminations and with each termination weighing 36kg once filled with resin, it was no easy task fitting them.

More information regarding the Pike River Coal Mine can be found on www.pike.co.nz.
