ECANZ Challenge 2011

08 Feb 2011

Take the ECANZ Challenge ...

Challenge 2011 is an electrical industry initiative to find the most outstanding individual with a flair for either domestic/commercial, or industrial work.

Open to senior electrical apprentices still in a current ITO training agreement as at 1st March 2011, Challenge 2011 is a competition-based event comprising of a series of Preliminary Rounds held nationwide and the New Zealand Final.

So, if you have at least 20 months on job experience, have completed level 2 off job and not yet qualified as an electrician as at 1st March 2011, then Challenge 2011 is just for you

THE CHALLENGE FORMAT

A series of one-day (8 hour) Preliminary Rounds will be run midweek at venues around the country during March and April (except Invercargill). Please visit the ECANZ Challenge website, www.ecanzchallenge.co.nz to confirm venues, dates and enter on-line.

From all the Preliminary Rounds held around the country, the competitors with the top 5-7 scores, from each competition stream, qualify to compete in the three day New Zealand final to be held in Wellington, 27-29 July, 2011.

In the Preliminary Round, you will be required to put together a working simulation of an everyday application. This will be very similar to what you have done on block courses. The New Zealand Final is much of the same. And yes, it will be a bit more complex and a lot more demanding of your time, but it will also be a lot more rewarding for you, your employer and your training provider.

The Preliminary Rounds are held in at least ten different centres across New Zealand so the sooner you get your completed entry in, the better chance you have of competing at a venue near you.

THE REWARDS - PRELIMINARY ROUND

The best performers at each Preliminary Round centre receive $200 along with their employer and training provider receiving recognition of their success. In addition, all Preliminary Round competitors go into the draw for one of ten $50 fuel vouchers. Naturally you can’t compete on an empty stomach, so all food anddrinks will be provided for you on the day

THE REWARDS - NEW ZEALAND FINAL

The top three placegetters, from both competition streams, receive a travel prize, industry recognition and other cool gifts. All other finalists receive awards and well deserved industry recognition. Employers and training providers of every apprentice that make it to the New Zealand Final will receive industry recognition, and certificates.

Finalists will travel to Wellington, where all competition related travel, accommodation and food expenses will be taken care of. As well as competing in the New Zealand Final they will get to know Wellington a little better and make some key industry contacts
